Save the Greyhound Project
Opportunity for Dow City-Arion Alumni to preserve history
by Vincent J. Leinen, Project Director
May 17, 2009
In 1995 the "Save the Greyhound" Project was initiated with the simple goal of 'preserving the wonderful history of the Dow City-Arion school from 1894-1989 and having this history live on forever for all to enjoy'.
Note: 1989 was the last Dow City-Arion High school graduation class and in 2004 the Dow City-Arion School building (excluding the newer attached gymnasium etc.) was demolished.
The "Save the Greyhound" Project plan and procedure includes:
(1.)Collecting all of the yearbooks, memorabilia, newspaper articles, photos, prom/bach./graduation invitations, uniforms, video/audio tapes of all school activities i.e. sports, music etc.
(2.) have all the school historical material scanned and/or photographed and downloaded onto a digital formati.e.. CD's or DVD's
(3.) have these CD's or DVD's made available at the Dow House, Crawford County Historical Society, Dow City and Denison libraries, local schools and businesses' and/or posted on web sites i.e. Dow City web site www.DowCity.com .
With 'modern technology' the history of the Dow City-Arion school can be preserved, enjoyed, shared, and 'live on forever’!!
All effort given to provide any additional 'greyhound history' material or assistance with any aspect of the "Save the Greyhound" Project would be greatly appreciated/enjoyed!! .
