The High School Painting class's final project was an acrylic painting on 14x12 canvas board. Students learned about 20th Century American master, Georgia O'Keefe who magnified flowers to the point of abstraction. Some students used a silk flower as a model and others used photographs. They were challenged to select a unique composition, then first sketch the flower's outline and paint it in stages, first in greyscale (black and white), then in glazes of blue, red, yellow, and finally adding details and blending with whichever colors they wished.
During the course of the semester Painting students worked with oil pastels, watercolor, tempera, oil, and finally acrylic.
